Green Tea Reduces Risk of Blood Cancers by 42%

Green TeaJapanese green tea study found impressive results in terms of reducing blood and lymph cancer. Tohoku University researchers found 42 percent of the reduction in blood cancers and 48 per cent reduction for lymph cancer with high consumption of green tea.

To reach those results analyzed by age, gender, lifestyle and health of 40,000 Japanese over the ten-year period. Epidemiological studies (statistical observation time) in Japan has been strengthened to the west of clinical applications and laboratory studies have revealed interesting insights.

For example, the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota leukemia patients fed large doses of GTE’s (green tea) and found immediate benefits in their patients. However, doctors consider GTE’is a useful supplement to orthodox cancer treatment. Dropped the concept of using GTE’s exclusively or in combination with other natural treatments for cancer.

Researchers in Spain and England, isolated drive green tea’s inhibition of cancer cells. Their research was published in March 2005 in the journal Cancer Research. They found that ECGC, extremely rich catechin in green tea inhibits the enzyme dihydrofolate reductase reductase (DHFR).

Catechins are the active metabolites polyfenolických antioxidants in green tea. DHFR enzymes are needed prevent those cancer cells to multiply. On closer examination of green tea ECGC, has decided that its molecular structure strongly resembles the fact of methotrexate used in cancer chemotherapy.

The good news is that the binding properties of ECGC is as intense as the drug methotrexate. Therefore, green tea side effects are minimal. But there is one case where green tea’s ECGC ties to DHFR can be harmful: ECGC ties to DHFR may prevent folic acid needed by pregnant women in the first trimester. This situation has been shown to increase the risk of her child was born with spina bifida or other neurological disorders of the fetus.

For this reason it is recommended that women limit their consumption of green tea just before pregnancy and during the first trimester.
